Sports Massage is the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body including muscles, tendons and ligaments. It is applicable not just to sports people but to anybody wishing to guard against or recover from a soft tissue injury.
Physiotherapy, often referred to as physio, uses physical methods, such as massage and manipulation to promote healing and wellbeing. Physiotherapy treatments are often used to help restore a person’s range of movement after injury or illness.
What will happen on my first session?
During your initial consultation your Physio will ask you a range of questions relating to your injury before carrying out a physical assessment of the injured site. This is an important aspect of your initial consultation to ensure your physical assessment and follow
up treatment are appropriate to your needs.
What does the physical assessment entail?
During the physical assessment your physio will assess the site you have indicated as being painful for swelling, range of movement
and strength to ensure that your treatment plan is appropriate for you.
What can I expect treatment wise?
Your physio may use massage, manipulation, acupuncture, Kinesio taping, electrotherapy (such as ultra sound) as well as special exercises to restore the range of motion and function of the injured areas to help reduce pain. Depending on your given injury these exercises and treatments will be progressed at a level relevant to you dependent upon your pain. To support you through your
treatment advice is available at no extra cost throughout the week via SMS and E-mail.
What is Kinesio Tex® tape?
Kinesio® Tex is a specialist tape designed for Kinesio Taping® treatment. Designed and manufactured by Kinesio®, Kinesio® Tex is recognised as the only tape that uniquely meets the requirements for the Kinesio Taping® technique. Its properties are very different from traditional athletic tapes and it has been developed to give optimum results when treating muscular disorders and lymphoedema reduction.
The Kinesio Taping® method involves taping over and around muscles to assist and give support and prevent over-contraction.
Kinesio Tex® is different to other athletic tapes as it is designed to give support whilst maintaining full range of motion, and it facilitates circulation 24 hours a day.
Your certified physio will ensure correct application of the tape and progression of techniques relevant to your needs. Don't settle for second use what the pro's have.
In medical acupuncture, as with traditional acupuncture, your physio will assess your condition and your treatment will be tailored to you. The acupuncture needles may be inserted for up to 20 minutes or left in position briefly. The number of needles varies but may be as few as two or three. You may have treatment sessions once a week to begin with, then at longer intervals if your condition responds. A typical course of treatment lasts five to eight sessions. If your physio feels that your condition can't be treated with acupuncture, they will recommend that you see your GP or an appropriate specialist.
